Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, said that he is still trying to contact the boxer after the news of his unfortunate accident, which claimed two lives and left him injured.

Joshua was involved in a major car crash on Monday, December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan motorway, Makun area, Ogun State. 

Videos and pictures from the crash, coupled with eyewitness reports, were the initial source of information on the ghastly incident, while the world awaited official reports and confirmations. 

What Hearn said

Hearn is a reliable source of information for all things Anthony Joshua, having been his promoter and business partner since 2013. However, when the Daily Mail contacted him for comments on the incident, he said that he was still trying to contact the British-Nigerian fighter, but expressed relief that the videos making the rounds showed that Joshua escaped with minor injuries

"I am away on a family holiday and awoke to the news of this incident,” Hearn said. “We are trying to contact Anthony and in the meantime, we don't want to speculate on how he is but thankfully, he appears OK from what I have seen in the images. We are awaiting more information on what has happened and will update in due course."

What happened 

As Pulse Sports reported, the collision took place along the busy Lagos-Ibadan motorway. The Lexus SUV carrying Joshua, with licence plate KRD 850 HN, rear-ended a stationary truck.

According to a report by PUNCH, an eyewitness confirmed the incident occurred near the Danco Filling Station, just before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound side of the highway. The witness stated that two individuals died at the scene, while Joshua is said to have sustained minor injuries.

The Ogun State Commissioner of  Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, corroborated the eyewitness report in his interview with the Daily Mail. “I can confirm an accident occurred and Anthony Joshua has been taken to hospital."

“A vehicle rammed into a stationary vehicle. Unfortunately, there were two fatalities. Anthony Joshua was treated by first-responders at the scene and then taken to hospital.”

The Ogun State Police Command confirms that world-renowned boxer, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a road traffic accident today, Monday, December 29, 2025, at about 11:00 am, in Makun, Ogun State,' the statement read.

The incident occurred along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, just before Danco Filling Station, near the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis.The vehicle conveying Mr. Joshua, a Lexus SUV, was involved in the accident under circumstances that are currently being investigated.

Joshua, seated in the rear of the vehicle, sustained minor injuries and is receiving medical attention with another injured person.Tragically, two other passengers in the vehicle lost their lives at the scene. The deceased have been conveyed to Livewell Hospital Morgue, Sagamu.

The Ogun State Police Command extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and assures the public that a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident has commenced. Further updates on the incident will be communicated as investigation progresses.
