Amorim demands greater control as Manchester United seek anniversary win over Everton
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim believes his team has grown significantly during his first year in charge, but insists the Red Devils must show even more control as they prepare for Everton’s visit to Old Trafford on Monday.
The Portuguese coach, who reached the one-year mark since taking his debut match in the United dugout, aims to celebrate the milestone with a crucial home victory.
Despite visible progress, United’s numbers over the last 12 months still paint a mixed picture. They have won 12 of 38 Premier League matches under Amorim, losing 17 and conceding 60 goals, a tally that ranks among the poorest in that period.
What Amorim said
Yet Amorim remains optimistic, stressing that United are trending in the right direction.
Speaking ahead of the match, the 39-year-old highlighted the improvement in intensity and style, while warning that complacency is not an option.
“We are showing improvement, but it doesn’t matter what we did in recent games. We cannot forget how much we suffered last year,” Amorim said.
He added, “We are more dominant, playing better football, and more competitive. But I still expect a team with more control and more authority.”
United head into the tie unbeaten in their last five league matches, although the previous two ended in draws.
