Ahmed Musa: Super Eagles star terminates contract with Turkish side Sivasspor amid financial issues
The 31-year-old winger, a pivotal figure in Jose Peseiro's squad at the recently concluded AFCON 2023 in Ivory Coast, is now a free agent. Despite Nigeria clinching a silver medal at the tournament, Musa did not see action in any of the seven matches.
A Mutual Decision Amid Financial Strains
The turning point came during the AFCON 2023 tournament. Sivasspor, facing financial hurdles and struggling to manage their wage bill, saw five senior players, including Musa, mutually agreeing to contract terminations, as reported by Soccernet.
A report from Medyazar highlighted the club's six-month wage debt to Musa. Despite formal notices from the player, the club failed to address the payment issues, leading to his departure.
A Stint Filled with Challenges
Musa's journey with Sivasspor began in September 2022, following his departure from another Turkish team, Fatih Karagümrük.
His time with Sivasspor, however, was fraught with difficulties, particularly concerning his time on the pitch. In his inaugural season, Musa participated in 24 matches but rarely from the start, failing to net any goals or provide assists. He averaged merely 24 minutes per game, a stark contrast to his previous impactful performances elsewhere.
Musa, a legend at Kano Pillars, is rumoured to be considering a return to his roots with Kano Pillars or possibly making a move to a Saudi club in the upcoming summer transfer window.
His journey continues to unfold, with his next destination eagerly anticipated by fans and followers of his illustrious career.
