AFCONQ2023: Nigeria Super Eagles drop to second in Group A

Nigeria Super Eagles have a battle of their hand for the race to finish top of Group A in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.

The Super Eagles have dropped to second on the log after Guinea-Bissau defeated Sao Tome and Principe on Wednesday evening.

Guinea-Bissau was forced to dig deep following a hard-fought 1-0 win over a stubborn Sao Tome side.

Zinho Gano was the hero of the day after he scored the only goal of the game in the 55th minute to lead his side to victory.

Following the win, Guinea-Bissau returns to winning ways after that 1-0 defeat to Nigeria at home.

However, with the win over Sao Time, Guinea has now leapfrogged Nigeria to the top of Group A with 10 points, just one above the Super Eagles.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles have been hard at training as they stepped up preparation ahead of the game against Sierra Leone.

Nigeria will be the visitor when they take on the Leone Stars at the weekend in Monrovia.

With a ticket to the AFCON 2023 within sight, the Eagles have been training at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

Coach Jose Peseiro has a full house following the arrival of Napoli superstar Victor Osimhen and Bright Osayi-Samuel.

The Super Eagles camp has been open since Monday as the coach and his team look to pick a ticket to Ivory Coast next year.

Nigeria needs a win and three points to seal the ticket with just a match to spare.
