Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface had a word for the critics who called for Victor Osimhen to be dropped after the bust-up against Mozambique, following the Galatasaray ace’s Man of the Match outing against Algeria.

The Super Eagles are into the semi-final of the African Cup of Nations for the 17th time in their history, thanks to an excellent showing from Osimhen. The 27-year-old scored and assisted as the three-time AFCON champions beat the Desert Foxes 2-0 to book a semi-final against hosts Morocco.

Left to a sizable section of Super Eagles fans and followers, Osimhen should have never started the game as punishment for his reprehensible action in the round of 16 against the Mambas. However, many others cautioned against taking such a drastic action.

After Osimhen’s incredible showing at Grande Stade de Marrakech against Algeria, many from the divide against benching Osimhen for the Algeria game celebrated the victory and his performance with extra glee.

“‘Nigeria should bench Osimhen against Algeria,’ werey alakoba,” one fan jested on X. Boniface responded to the tweet, saying, “No mind those W*rey.”

Boniface is one of Osimhen's closest colleagues in the Super Eagles dressing room, and he is a relatively heavy social media user; hence, his reaction comes as no surprise.

Meanwhile, the Werder Bremen man has had to watch the tournament from home, as he was not included in Eric Chelle's squad for the tournament. While he has yet to show his qualities with the Super Eagles, a bigger reason behind his omission was his poor form at Werder Bremen and injury problems.

He recently suffered another anterior cruciate ligament injury, which effectively rules him out for the foreseeable future. Today, he shared pictures after the successful surgery on his knee, and in classic Boniface fashion, he added a comical caption.
