Former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel has praised four key players for their standout performances, as the Super Eagles advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria has emerged as a strong contender for the title in Morocco, largely due to a formidable attacking display.

The team leads the tournament's scoring charts with twelve goals, a significant shift from the defensive strategy seen under Jose Peseiro at the 2023 AFCON.

The goals have been distributed among seven players, with Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman contributing half of the total.

Mikel Obi speaks on Super Eagles' performance 

Speaking on his podcast, "The Obi One," Mikel identified Osimhen, Lookman, Ndidi, and Alex Iwobi as the players who have particularly caught his eye.

"I like to see Victor Osimhen win the highest goalscorer because he deserves it. Ademola Lookman as well playing really well. Both of them absolutely on fire," Mikel stated.

"Alex Iwobi in this tournament has been absolutely fantastic. I have been waiting for this from Alex Iwobi for a long time.

"Of course Ndidi, the captain as well, the mainstay of the team, who keeps the balance. Everything is working perfectly for the team, but we have to go on now and win the tournament," he added.

Looking ahead to the quarterfinal clash against Algeria, Mikel urged the team to maintain focus and eliminate any potential off-field issues.
