The Omonia Nicosia shot-stopper has faced scrutiny over his performances since his time as Nigeria's number one at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Uzoho's inclusion in the squad, particularly given his limited playing time this season with only five appearances for his club, surprised many.

The decision was further highlighted by the omission of Maduka Okoye, who has been a regular starter for Serie A side Udinese.

Uzoho speaks on criticism

Despite the criticism, the 2015 U-17 World Cup winner is focused on the future and expressed his gratitude for another opportunity to represent his country.

"I'm at my fourth AFCON [campaign], it's a thing of joy for me," Uzoho stated in an interview with Elegbete TV Sports. "I thank God for giving me the strength to be always fit whenever the time comes, and it's a good feeling."

"Like I said, the past is the past. I don't dwell in the past," he affirmed. "Every time I have an opportunity, I always give my best, and that's what I intend to do if I get the chance this time around. The fans should expect a good performance from anyone who gets to play."

Uzoho was on the bench in the Super Eagles’ 2-1 victory over Tanzania on Tuesday evening and will be hoping to get a start when they face Tunisia and Rwanda, respectively.
