Despite facing criticism online, particularly from some Nigerian supporters who questioned his decisions, Laryea has stood by his professional conduct.

He also refuted claims that the well-known social media rivalry between Ghanaians and Nigerians influenced his officiating, stressing that his focus remained strictly on his professional duties.

Speaking to the media in Accra, he emphasised his commitment to impartiality. "For me, I just do my refereeing job and I don’t listen to what goes on on social media. I just apply the laws of the game," Laryea stated.
