AFCON 2025: Full list of quarterfinals as Algeria book Super Eagles date
The Round of 16 at AFCON 2025 has officially concluded, setting the stage for an exciting last-eight showdown.
With Algeria securing a dramatic win to book a date with Nigeria, all quarter-final fixtures for the tournament are now confirmed.
Drama and upsets shape the last eight
Several Round of 16 encounters delivered high drama as Africa’s top nations battled for a place in the quarter-finals. Senegal booked their spot with a convincing 3–1 victory over Sudan and will now face Mali, who needed penalties to edge past Tunisia in one of the most tense matches of the round.
Morocco were also pushed hard but managed to grind out a narrow 1–0 win over Tanzania, courtesy of a decisive strike from Brahim Diaz. The Atlas Lions will meet Cameroon next after the Indomitable Lions claimed a 2–1 win over South Africa in an entertaining contest.
Elsewhere, Egypt continued their strong run by defeating Tanzania 3–1 and now prepare for a heavyweight clash against Ivory Coast. The Elephants sent a clear warning to the rest of the field with a dominant 3–0 win over Burkina Faso, underlining their title ambitions.
Nigeria vs Algeria headlines quarterfinal fixtures
The standout quarter-final tie will see Nigeria renew their rivalry with Algeria in a repeat of the 2019 AFCON semi-final. The Super Eagles were the most emphatic winners in the Round of 16, dismantling Mozambique 4–0 to post the largest winning margin at this stage of the tournament.
That victory has now set up a mouth-watering clash with Nigeria as both sides chase a place in the semi-finals.
AFCON 2025’s quarter-finals will be played on January 9 and 10, with the tournament’s top eight teams all fighting for the same prize, another step closer to continental glory.
