AFCON 2023: Journalists go crazy, barricade Ghana team bus, attack manager after dreadful Mozambique draw
In an unfortunate turn of events, the Ghanaian national team bus was barricaded from leaving the stadium following the Black Stars’ disastrous 2-2 draw against Mozambique in the final group game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana suffer AFCON humiliation against Mozambique
The draw against Mozambique leaves Ghana in third place in Group B, with only two points and very slim chances of reaching the second round, even with the possibility of being one of the four best losers.
Two goals in extra time, including a penalty and a disastrous error from goalkeeper Richard Ofori, condemned the Black Stars to a disappointing draw and the very real chance that they will exit the 2023 AFCON at the Group stage
Fans and journalists loyal to the Black Stars have not taken kindly to the disappointment of a possible second consecutive group stage exit at AFCON.
Ghanaian team bus walleyed after AFCON draw
Several videos have emerged of confrontations between groups of fans, journalists, and sections of the national team following the draw.
On the social media platform X, one video showed alleged Ghanaian journalists berating coach Chris Hughton and threatening to sack him themselves if the Football Association does not do its job.
The Ghana Media here have taken it upon ourselves to sack whoever deserves a sack.

Hughton is the first. The rest should come
The CAF Security should be calm, we will be under control. pic.twitter.com/xf9OGBDptR
Another video showed more alleged Ghanaian journalists barricading the stadium exit to stop the Black Stars team bus from leaving the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara.
CAF security has called for reinforcement. The media just want to meet the team.

We are not leaving until they come.
We won’t tolerate this level of embarrassment and wastage again.
If powers won’t do, we will let them know how it feels to play for this team.

More armed police here to contain the angry Ghana Media.

But no. We have tolerated this for far too long.
This team was built with the toil and sweat of a few honest and dedicated individuals.
We won’t allow a few to destroy it. Today, we will show them our anger. pic.twitter.com/BoKKn8LCQI
With Ghana unlikely to play at the 2023 AFCON due to their poor standing in Group B, the series of incidents marks a disappointing end to their campaign in Africa’s biggest national team tournament.
