The Atalanta forward is reportedly dealing with a calf injury that could keep him out for several weeks, just as transfer talks heat up.

Calf issue raises concerns

Lookman is said to have experienced calf discomfort during Atalanta’s training session on Wednesday. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport via SOSFanta, the discomfort intensified when he attempted to strike the ball, prompting the club to schedule further medical tests.

While the injury is not being classified as major for now, it has already ruled him out of full training. With preseason fast approaching and Inter eager to finalise their plans under new boss Cristian Chivu, any physical issue raises flags, especially when spending a sizeable transfer fee.

Lookman had an outstanding 2023/24 season with Atalanta, playing a key role in their Europa League triumph and finishing with 17 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, and followed that up with a 2024/25 season that saw him break the 20-goal barrier for the first time.

Transfer tensions between Atalanta and Inter

A few weeks on the sidelines could disrupt both his sharpness and medical clearance if Inter are to proceed with a €50 million deal.

Inter Milan have tabled an opening offer of €40 million, but Atalanta are refusing to accept anything less than their €50 million valuation. Talks have started, but there’s still a gap to bridge.

Lookman has reportedly already agreed to a five-year deal worth €4 million per season and is said to be fully on board with Chivu’s project, which includes forming a dynamic trio with Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez.

However, Atalanta are holding their ground. They have also opened communication with Atletico Madrid, potentially creating pressure on Inter to raise their offer. If the injury complicates matters, Lookman’s dream move could face real delays.
