The oriental derby is one of the local derbies in the NPFL and there is no love between these two sides on the pitch.
Rangers have been dominating the previous meetings, winning the last two matches between them at home.
The derby witnessed enterprising football from the two sides, but the visitors made their presence count with a goal in the 42nd minute through Bello Lukman.
The Flying Antelopes' efforts to equalise were denied severely and a few minutes to the end of the game Monday Yakubu sealed the victory for the visitors.
Three Away wins in first three games
This season NPFL started with a shock as the first three games produced away wins.
It was the Nigeria National League champions, Bendel Insurance that Insured Akwa united at home in the league opener.
Eighth-time champions, Enyimba also defeated Nasarawa United at home 2-1 before Abia warriors complete the three away wins in the first three league games.
