The two shared a strong bond, and the German manager was deeply affected by the tragic news from Spain, expressing his grief in a poignant message.
"This is a moment I'm struggling with. There has to be a higher purpose! But I can't see it! I'm heartbroken by the news of the deaths of Diogo and his brother André.
"Diogo wasn't just a fantastic player, he was also an extraordinary friend, a loving and caring husband, and a devoted father! We will miss him so much!
"All my prayers, thoughts, and support go out to Rute, the children, family, friends, and everyone who loved him! Rest in peace – With love, Jurgen Klopp," the German wrote, via GSP.
At Anfield, over five seasons, he played 182 matches, scored 65 goals and provided 26 assists, becoming a key player for the team, first under Jurgen Klopp and later Arne Slot, despite frequently struggling with injuries.
He contributed to winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and the League Cup, and was part of the team that played in the 2022 Champions League final against Real Madrid. Diogo Jota also won two Nations League trophies with Portugal, the most recent this summer.
