What Rooney said

Speaking on his personal podcast, Rooney suggested that the pressure is firmly on Liverpool to bounce back after a difficult run of form.

He noted that Jurgen Klopp's side, having had a two-week break, should be reset and ready for the high-stakes encounter.

Liverpool head into the match on the back of a tough week that saw them suffer defeats to Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, and Chelsea, with more challenging fixtures ahead.

Rooney anticipates that Liverpool's recent struggles will only serve to motivate them and their supporters.

"Just with Liverpool losing three games, I think that pride kicks in. The fans are not stupid; they know and will get behind the team and push them," he explained.

Given the circumstances, Rooney feels that a draw would be a significant achievement for the Red Devils.

"So for United, I think going there, if United come away with a point, I think that would be huge," he stated.

He contrasted the expectations of the two fanbases, suggesting the burden lies with the home side.

"I don’t think United fans will be expecting three points in this game, whereas in other games they are. I think they’ll go in and say, if we can get a point, we’ll be happy with that," Rooney said.

"For Liverpool, if they lose four games in a row and they lose to Man United at Anfield, I think the pressure is definitely on Liverpool for this game."
