A Historic return to the Pitch
The veteran shot-stopper, who last played professionally for Marottese in 2019, made a surprise comeback six years later when Trevana offered him a short-term deal.
Despite his team falling to a 10–0 defeat, Boranga was replaced midway through the game, conceding only half of the goals before a younger goalkeeper took over.
What Boranga said
After the match, the octogenarian defended his display, saying he was proud to still compete at his age.
“I made two mistakes, but I also made three or four good saves,” Boranga admitted.
A Career Spanning Over 60 Years
Boranga’s professional journey began with Perugia in 1961 and later included spells at Fiorentina, Brescia, and Parma before he first retired in 1993.
He famously came out of retirement in 2009 to play amateur football and continued until 2019, before making yet another comeback at 82.
During his time at Parma between 1978 and 1980, Boranga briefly shared the dressing room with Carlo Ancelotti, who is now the manager of Brazil and a former head coach of Real Madrid and Chelsea.
The pair overlapped during the 1978–79 season, when a young Ancelotti was beginning his professional career.
