Leyland is the first athlete from Europe to compete in Dambe, according to the event's organizers, who call it the King of Dambe.
The King of Dambe also featured elite combatants selected from the three Dambe houses of Arewa (Jamus), Kudawa (Kudu), and Gurumada, according to a statement released by the organizers.

Dambe is a traditional African sport, therefore its worldwide recognition was a momentous moment.

Ahead of the fight, Leyland was quoted to have said: “I am thrilled to be in Nigeria, representing the UK in the ancient art of dambe.

Leyland and Yansanda's fight was more than just a brawl; it also heralded a new era for dambe.

At the end of the fight, Nigeria's Shagon Yellow defeated Britain's Luke Leyand after two rounds of intense Dambe action.

This traditional African sport will see participation from a European athlete for the first time, bringing Dambe and its participants international attention.
The "King of Dambe" event, organized by the AWFC, is a celebration of Dambe's development and growing international renown in addition to being a competition.
