At UFC 309, Jon Jones maintained his heavyweight title by stopping Stipe Miocic with a spectacular kick, solidifying his place among the greatest mixed martial artists of all time.
In the third round at Madison Square Garden in New York, Jones defeated fellow American Miocic with a thudding spinning back kick to make his first title defense.
With the victory, Jones, a former light-heavyweight champion, set a new record of 16th in title fights and 22nd overall in the UFC.

Miocic, on the other hand, is regarded as the best heavyweight champion in history and exits the sport with the record for the most heavyweight title defenses.
Although the UFC advertised the fight as the largest heavyweight match in history, Aspinall, who was octagon-side, had controlled the conversation during fight week.
A year ago, Aspinall defeated Sergei Pavlovich to win the interim title after Jones was sidelined by injury during his first fight with Miocic.
In the first round Jones controlled his opponent looking for armbars and landing many elbows.
In the second round, he kept up the pressure, hitting a knee from the clinch and injuring Miocic with a body kick before the former champion hit back with his signature straight right.
Midway through the round, before the decisive moment, Miocic sustained a cut behind his right eye from a straight left jab followed by a short right hand.
The referee intervened to end the fight after Jones felled the challenger with a devastating spinning back kick to the body as Miocic was backed up against the cage.
Jones celebrated by dancing in the middle of the octagon before going to see Trump and present the president-elect with his title.
