Ajax vs. Galatasaray preview, prediction, team news and head-to-head

The Turkish side have won their last two UCL games, a streak that started with a 1-0 win over Liverpool, with Osimhen scoring from the spot.

Ajax’s struggles in Europe continue, with the Dutch giants enduring a six-game losing streak in UEFA competitions since their UEFA Europa League last-16 exit last season. 

Their form at the Johan Cruyff Arena has offered little comfort either, as they have won just one of their last four home matches (D1, L2).

A 2-0 defeat to Inter Milan in their most recent Champions League home fixture extended a three-match losing run in Europe, further highlighting their decline. Domestically, Ajax are also slipping away from Champions League qualification places, adding to the pressure on head coach John Heitinga.

Unlike Ajax, Galatasaray recovered from a poor start when they lost 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt in their opening UCL game.

However, the Turkish side won against Liverpool and followed it with a 3-1 win over Bodo-Glimt. Now, they will look to end their woes on the road, failing to win each of their last 10 away games in Europe (D3, L7) despite scoring in nine of them.

Ajax claimed a 2-1 victory over Galatasaray in their only previous meeting, which came during the last UEFA Europa League league phase. 

The Turkish champions have never beaten a Dutch side away from home (D1, L6), while Ajax boast an impressive record, winning 12 of their 14 UEFA encounters with Turkish opposition (D1, L1).

Ajax will be without Kenneth Taylor, who is suspended after his sending off in the loss to Chelsea. 

The Dutch side will also remain without Steven Berghuis (groin), Kasper Dolberg (abdominal strain), and Branco van den Boomen (back).

Galatasaray are set for a boost as Davinson Sanchez returns after serving his domestic suspension. However, midfielder İIkay Gundogan is expected to sit out the trip due to a lingering calf problem.

Osimhen remains the standout figure for the visitors despite a frustrating display against Trabzonspor, where six attempts failed to find the net.
