Brothers under fire - Iñaki and Nico Williams investigated for luxury car fraud
Nico Williams recently held back on making a move to Barcelona in this transfer window, despite agreeing to a move with the La Liga giants.
The winger went on to sign a new contract with Athletic Bilbao that will keep him at the club till 2030.
Following his recently signed new contract, Inaki Williams defended his brother's failed transfer, claiming, "There were many lies; Barcelona ran a damaging media campaign."
William's brothers in trouble
A Spanish car dealership claims the footballers carried out a fraudulent transaction, never completing the payment. The brothers, however, deny any wrongdoing, as reported by Sportal.
Iñaki and Nico have released a joint statement acknowledging the complaint against them but categorically denying any criminal activity.
"Having learned from the media about a potential complaint against us, and after gathering information, we can confirm that a complaint has been filed based on facts that do not correspond to the truth," the statement, posted on social media by both players, said.
The complaint has been filed with a court in Aoiz (Navarre). "We categorically deny having committed any crime. There is no factual or legal basis to support the accusation of criminal conduct," they added, before emphasising that the complaint "deliberately conceals and distorts the real facts."
"It is clear that the main objective of this baseless complaint is to damage our personal and professional image, attempting to force us to make an improper payment. We have full confidence in the Spanish judicial system and will actively cooperate to clarify the facts," they explained.
Iñaki and Nico affirmed they are "deeply at peace" because they have not "committed any illegal act or one that contradicts the values" that "have always guided them, both personally and professionally."
"When this entire process is clarified, we will take the necessary measures against all those who have wrongly accused us, and against those who have used this information, knowing it to be false, to damage our image and honor," the statement concluded.
