Thierry Henry revealed the advice he gave Jeremy Doku on how to improve his game.

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry revealed the conversation he had with Jeremy Doku concerning improving the winger’s dribbling technique.

The 23-year-old Belgium international is one of the best wingers in world football; however, he struggles in many other offensive metrics. Henry, who was an assistant coach for the Red Devils across two stints, the latest of which ended in 2023, said that he spoke to Doku about improving his end product while he was a coach with the national team.

What Henry said

The former Barcelona star is a fan of direct forwards and has, hence, praised Mohamed Salah on his business-like approach to dribbling.

Henry eschews dribbling for the sake of it. He criticised Doku’s style, as he noticed the winger only looks at the ball and his marker, which limits his field of vision. For Henry, a dribble is not required to impact of football game.

“I had that discussion with Doku in the national team, very interesting,” Henry said on the Overlap Podcast.

“I'm looking at him and as you, you know, always. I, I'm like, what, when, when you do this, what do you see? Are you here? Are you here or are you there?

“Because you do this to, to, to see what you're doing because you're cooking here—I call it cooking—you're cooking here and you see the movement of your 9, but you do this, you don't even know what's happening there.

“You don't need to dribble past someone to deliver across. You don't need to dribble past someone to give an assist.”

As stated earlier, Doku is one of the best dribblers in the game but struggles in the end product department. Pulse Sports reported that only Lamine Yamal (224) completed more dribbles than Doku (155) in European football this season.
