German World Cup winner breaks Ghanaian hearts, denies talks to become Black Stars coach
Ghana’s hopes of landing a world-class tactician ahead of the 2026 World Cup have suffered a major setback, as one of their top targets has publicly shut down speculation.
The latest twist leaves the Black Stars’ coaching search wide open at a crucial moment, with less than three months to kick off.
Joachim Löw dismisses Ghana links
Former Germany boss Joachim Löw has firmly denied reports suggesting he is in talks to become Ghana’s next head coach.
“No one from Ghana has officially spoken to me,” Löw told Sky Sport, pouring cold water on earlier claims that negotiations were already at an advanced stage.
Those reports had indicated that the Ghana Football Association had made significant progress in discussions with the 2014 World Cup-winning coach, with suggestions he had shown “genuine interest” in the role.
Löw, who guided Germany to glory at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, has been out of management since stepping down from the national team job five years ago after Euro 2020. However, he made it clear he remains open to the right opportunity.
“I don’t want to retire if there’s another interesting offer where I can say, ‘That’s a good prospect,’” he said, while also noting that his experience makes national team roles a natural fit.
Ghana left searching after Otto Addo exit
The denial comes at a difficult time for Ghana, who are still reeling from the departure of former coach Otto Addo following a 2-1 defeat to Germany.
With the World Cup fast approaching, the Black Stars must now accelerate their search for a new manager capable of guiding them through a challenging group featuring England, Croatia, and Panama.
The setback is a blow to Ghana’s ambitions of appointing a high-profile coach with proven tournament pedigree.
With time ticking and expectations rising, the federation faces increasing pressure to secure the right man to lead their World Cup charge.
