Ernst Middendorp resigns from Singida Big Stars after disagreements with management, leaving Kenyan trio Onyango, Abuya, and Rupia in limbo.

The Kenyan trio of Joash Onyango, Duke Ambuya, and Elvis Rupia are making headlines not for their performance on the pitch, but because of a sudden turn of events off the field.

Just two weeks after Ernst Middendorp took charge of Singida Fountain Gate FC , the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor has announced his resignation.

Middendorp's decision came as a shock to many, especially after his team's narrow 1-0 victory over Egypt's Future Stars.

The win, although significant, seemed to have sown discord between Middendorp and the club's management.

A club source cited disagreements over his team selection, leading to speculations about internal strife.

After a triumphant win, Middendorp shared his heartfelt thoughts in a long statement from his base in South Africa on Tuesday.

“During the pre-season, the authorities of Singida Fountain Gate FC released players and signed a significant number of new ones. Scouting this newly formed team, I was optimistic about its potential. The club had amassed a team with not just talent but complementary skill sets,”part of the statement reads.

"The 29 players responded very well. The team atmosphere after winning the first CAF Qualifying match against the very strong Egyptian team, Future FC, was great. To create this teamwork atmosphere, we implemented an environment where players' physical, emotional, and intellectual needs were fulfilled. Each player was treated and supported as a vital part of the team. Everybody felt accepted and respected," Middendorp added, highlighting the success of his methods.

However, not everything was as rosy as it seemed. Even after delivering a commendable performance against the Egyptians, the management’s reaction was unexpected.

"We expected that there would be words of praise. However, that was in no way the case. The intention of the meeting became clear; it was all about expressing dissatisfaction, my point of view was not requested, a discussion was not desired,"the coach recalled.

The points of contention raised by the club's authorities were stern, disappointment with the narrow 1-0 result against Future FC, criticism over the game's standard and accusations of merely "surviving", controversy over certain players being omitted from the selection, an unsolicited directive to include specified players in the starting lineup and exclude others entirely amd the surprise addition of the former assistant coach to the technical team.

The atmosphere in the room grew tense. Middendorp, reflecting on the meeting, remarked, "The totally unexpected statement of the Singida Funtain Gate FC's authority was coming so fast it was hard to absorb. I stayed respectful of the difficulty of dealing with the authority's requests and opinions, I didn't try to change the authority's opinions, consequently I opted for leaving the relationship with Singida Fountain Gate FC."
