Rooney on Messi's MLS arrival

Manchester United legend and now D.C United head coach Wayne Rooney shared his thoughts on Messi's arrival and expected impact.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the DC United boss said: "A great move obviously for the MLS. Commercially I think it'll be huge, it'll draw interest in the game from different regions of the world, I'm sure it'll do that as well.

"You're getting arguably the best player to have ever played the game, I'm sure he'll come here and want to be competitive and want to help Miami climb up the table, so, I think not just fans but coaches, players, I think everyone is excited to have him in the league."

Rooney's comments on Messi did not sit well with Manchester United fans and fans of Cristiano Ronaldo who questioned his loyalty to his former teammate.

Messi is expected to be unveiled as a new Inter Miami player on Sunday, potentiallly at halftime of the Gold Cup final.
