Former Harambee Stars captain's stellar comeback elevates Montreal Impact in a 1-1 draw, rekindling hope and promising a brighter future.

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama reclaimed his rightful place in the heart of Montreal Impact's midfield, and the impact was instant.

The 32-year-old  midfielder's presence breathed life into the team as they battled FC Cincinnati to a thrilling 1-1 draw in a match played in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

Wanyama, who had been conspicuously absent from the starting lineup for four consecutive matches, left fans and pundits alike speculating about his omission.

Coach Pablo Losada offered insight into the situation, emphasizing that Wanyama's value extended beyond the boundaries of the soccer field.

As the sole Designated Player in the team, his contributions off the pitch were just as significant as his on-field prowess.

Wanyama's resurgence was evident from the opening whistle and his commanding presence in midfield provided the stability that had been missing in previous fixtures.

It did not take long for his influence to materialize on the scoresheet. In the 53rd minute, Wanyama was the orchestrator behind the team's opening goal, deftly setting up Kwame Opoku to find the back of the net.

However, fate had other plans, and Wanyama was substituted in the 83rd minute and in  a cruel twist of events, just minutes after his departure, Montreal Impact conceded a penalty.

The Montreal goalkeeper brought down an opposition player, leading to a penalty kick for FC Cincinnati.

Luciano Acosta stepped up to the spot and coolly converted the penalty, leaving Impact fans with mixed emotions.

Wanyama's performance throughout the match was nothing short of stellar as  presence in the midfield was akin to a shield, breaking up opposition attacks and initiating counter-attacks.

He made several crucial interceptions and demonstrated his ability to read the game with precision.

As the final whistle blew, Montreal Impact found themselves locked in a hard-fought 1-1 draw, securing a valuable point.

The result sees Impact occupying the 8th position on the East Conference table with 37 points from 29 matches played in the ongoing season.
