Wayama remained an unused substitute as Montreal Impact were battered 4-2 by Columbus Crew on Sunday morning.

Victor Wanyama remained an unused substitute for the fourth game in a row as CF Montreal were battered 4-2 by Columbus Crew in an MLS fixture played at the Stade Saputo stadium on Sunday morning.

In a game that saw former coach Wilfred Nancy return to the club he coached to their best ever MLS regular-season finish in 2022, Crew looked comfortable in all aspects, with Colombian striker Cucho Hernández netting his first MLS hat trick after an early Gabriele Corbo own-goal set the tone for the visitors.

The Crew’s third win in their last four matches vaulted them into fourth place in the Eastern Conference table, good enough for home-field advantage in the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs. It also helped them turn the page on their midweek loss against Houston Dynamo FC.

Hernandez had wasted a golden scoring opportunity that could’ve changed the outcome of their previous match against Houston Dynamo FC, which they lost 2-0, but he more than made up for it Saturday night, striking three times – including once from the penalty spot to score his 10th goal of the season.

Kwadwo Opoku and Jules-Antony Visaint scored the consolation goals for Montreal, but they were not enough to help them savage anything during the match.

This will now raise eyebrows as to whether Wanyama’s time in the MLS is over, as the former Stars captain has not made a single appearance for the Colombian side since August.

In another MLS match, Kenyan-born defender Abdi Salim was also an unused substitute as title-chasing Orlando City beat league leaders Cincinnati 1-0  at the TQL stadium on Sunday morning.

The Lions were backed by a goal from Facundo Torres, which served as his 11th goal of the 2023 campaign across all competitions. That is good enough to now lead the team in goals scored and is also his 24th goal since joining the Lions, which sets him tied for fourth on the all-time scoring list alongside Dom Dwyer.

The Lions face a two-week gap between games for the international break before returning to Exploria Stadium on Saturday, September 16, to host Columbus Crew.]
