The former Newcastle and England striker believes that Rashford's recent form has been insufficient to warrant a place in the Three Lions squad.

Shearer believes that a change of scenery could catalyse Rashford to rediscover his best.

He said, "In his current form, I don't see Marcus Rashford reviving his England career.

"I don’t know his mentality, or what his approach is in training, but there's only one way back, which is to train and have the right attitude.

But looking from the outside, for me, he should have left Man United to reignite his career because he's gone very static for whatever reason, and it hasn't worked for him for a while now," Shearer told Betfair.

Shearer's comments have drawn attention, with Erik ten Hag, Manchester United's manager, previously criticising his punditry work.

Ten Hag had taken issue with Shearer's assessment of Rashford's form, but Shearer has stood by his comments.

"I was quite content and happy with what I said about Man United and Marcus Rashford before the game.

"I get Erik Ten Hag’s reaction because the question was put to him in his press conference about one of his players, and he's got no other option than to protect his player. I understood that. However, I would stand by everything I said, and nothing changed for me from what I saw at the weekend," Shearer said.

The 2022/23 season was Rashford's most prolific, with the England international scoring 30 goals for the Reds, marking the first time a United player has achieved this since Robin van Persie in 2013.
