Erling Haaland has fired an early warning to Premier League leaders Arsenal after Manchester City claimed a rare victory over Liverpool at Anfield, a result that has reignited the title race.
City’s 2–1 success on Sunday marked only their second league win at the iconic stadium under Pep Guardiola and the first achieved in front of a full Anfield crowd. The previous triumph came during the 2020–21 season, when matches were played behind closed doors due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The hard-earned three points keep City firmly within striking distance of Arsenal, who currently sit six points clear at the top.
What Haaland said
Speaking after the match, Haaland admitted the win carried special meaning, both personally and collectively.
“I’ve never won here before, so to come to Anfield and get a victory is an incredible feeling. It’s always difficult here because of the history between City and Liverpool over the last 10 years,” the Norwegian striker said.
Haaland also praised the travelling City supporters, describing the atmosphere at full-time as unforgettable.
“The emotions with the fans at the end were amazing. They support us every week, and they deserve that moment,” he added.
The City forward was quick to refocus on the broader title picture, sending a subtle message to Arsenal.
“In the end, it’s three points, no matter who you play. We’ve seen many times before that the title race isn’t over until it’s over,” Haaland said.
The win also carried historical importance for City, securing a league double over Liverpool for the first time since the 1936–37 season, a reminder of how far the club has progressed in recent decades.
Guardiola’s side now has the opportunity to cut Arsenal’s lead to just three points when they host Fulham on Wednesday.
