Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro shows public support for Victor Osimhen following the TikTok video row between the player and Napoli.

Super Eagles boss Jose Peseiro is the latest to criticise Napoli for the demeaning videos posted on the club’s official TikTok handle in mockery of Victor Osimhen.

The 24-year-old has been his most prolific for the Nigerian national team under the Portuguese coach, with 10 of his 20 international goals coming in only six games with Peseiro at the helm.

The former Venezuela head coach has now come out to join the disapproving voices against the Napoli post, saying it was unacceptable.

What Peseiro said

The 63-year-old had an interview with SkySports recently, and the TikTok incident that seemingly fractured the relationship between the striker and the Naples-based club was inevitably brought up.

Peseiro, like many who have commented on the issue before him, was befuddled by the decision to put out such content that seeks to berate an employee.

"That video? From the club? From the outside is one thing but a video from the club, that is the worst. That cannot happen," Peseiro said.

"He helps the team to the league and now they are mocking him. Osimhen is a star. Two years ago, he was not a star. Now, he is a star. And when you are a star, everybody wants more, more, more. The others can do bad but if Osimhen does bad it is different because people demand more from the players who can do more.”

Peseiro advises Osimhen

Although admitting the player had cause to feel aggrieved, the Portuguese calls for calm, advising him to maintain a cool head and not antagonise Napolitans.

"It was a bad thing that Napoli did. Of course, he would prefer they do not do it,” Peseiro answered.

“But my advice is to stay calm. Do not play against the fans. Do not lose balance. Keep the mentality. Keep the personality. That is what the very best players do. And he can be at the top."
