His return ends a two-month injury layoff that kept him out of action for both club and country and gives him hope ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Dele-Bashiru’s comeback boosts Lazio midfield options

The 24-year-old midfielder has been sidelined since late September following a hamstring injury picked up during Lazio’s 1–0 defeat to AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.

He started that heated derby but was forced off in the first half, with Reda Belahyane replacing him. The setback ruled him out of twelve matches across all competitions, eight in Serie A and four crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers for Nigeria.

Now, his inclusion in the squad to face AC Milan marks a significant step in his recovery and offers much-needed reinforcement for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Named among a five-man midfield unit featuring Belahyane, Mattéo Guendouzi, and Matías Vecino, Dele-Bashiru provides added depth whether he starts or comes off the bench as Lazio push to improve their league form.

Dele-Bashiru returns at a crucial time for Nigeria

Beyond club concerns, his comeback is a major boost for Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle ahead of his provisional list for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Nigeria, still stung by their failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, are determined to rebuild and mount a strong AFCON challenge.

Dele-Bashiru’s fitness and creativity in midfield could prove vital as the team aims to go one better than their runner-up finish in the last edition.

With the Super Eagles eager to restore continental pride, the timing of his return could not be more welcome.
