Super Eagles newcomer Nathan Tella reacts as Boniface introduces him to amala

Nigeria Super Eagles' latest star Nathan Tella has had his first taste of Nigerian food courtesy of clubmate Victor Boniface.

Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella is now fully Nigerian after he revealed the local delicacy he has had in his first international break.

The new Super Eagles star could not hide his excitement after clubmate Victor Boniface introduced him to the Nigerian delicacy amala.

The 24-year-old earned his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles after he made the team for the November international break.

Tella was the only new face as Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro named a 23-man squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Nigeria will kick off the journey to the 2026 global fiesta with a decisive double-header against Lesotho and Zimbabwe. 

Leverkusen star, Tella, was handed his first invite to the Eagles and has arrived at the team’s camp in Uyo ahead of the opener against Lesotho on Thursday.

Nathan eats amala

In a video posted on Instagram by journalist Calister, the talented England-born star revealed that he has had his first taste of Nigerian food. 

“Of course,” Nathan replied when asked if he had had any Nigerian food during the team’s training session in Uyo.

“Amala,” he said further before adding that his Bayer mate Boniface was behind it.

“Victor (Boniface) took me,” he added repeatedly in the video.

Nathan, who netted his first goal for Leverkusen, a stunning strike against Union Berlin just before he joined his new national teammates, will be hoping to make his official debut when Nigeria hosts Lesotho later on Thursday.
