Chippa United's Stanley Nwabali's AFCON 2023 show for Nigeria Super Eagles has sparked European interest which could see the shot-stopper depart the PSL side.

As PSL side Chippa United sets an ambitious two-million-euro price tag on the brilliant Stanley Nwabali, who has shone brightly at the AFCON 2023, the South African club’s decision opens the door for potential replacements.

Nwabali’s stellar displays for the Super Eagles in Cote d’Ivoire have seen his stock rise, with European clubs expected to express interest before the end of the season.

With that in mind, here are three Nigerian goalkeepers who could step into Nwabali’s shoes in South Africa for Chippa United.

Kingdom Osayi (Doma United)

A standout name for player of the season in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, following a monstrous first half for Doma United

Osayi has displayed remarkable shot-stopping abilities and a commanding presence in the box, with his consistent form leading the club to 13 clean sheets in 19 matches so far.

Like his Super Eagles compatriot, Nwabali, the talented goalkeeper is also more than a shot-stopper as he is as comfortable playing out and playmaking, evidenced by the fact he has two assists this season in the NPFL.

Amas Obasogie (Bendel Insurance)

Another incredible goalkeeper who has been a standout in the NPFL is Bendel Insurance’s Amas Obasogie.

Like Osayi, the Benin Arsenal skipper is more than a competent shot-stopper, regarded by many as one of the best stoppers in the NPFL if not the best.

Obasogie, who has played his part en route to 11 clean sheets for Insurance this season, has already earned an invitation to the Super Eagles, a reward for his stellar performances for Bendel Insurance, which has also produced a title - the Aiteo Cup.

Christian Nwoke (Sporting Lagos)

In a league filled with top-notch goalkeepers, Christian Nwoke has managed to stand out as one of the most popular shot-stoppers in the NPFL.

His goalkeeping excellence played an instrumental role in Sporting Lagos’ impressive start to their first-ever season in the league before their latest struggles.

Nwoke's form also came at the time when the national team, the Super Eagles, suffered a goalkeeping crisis, making Nwoke a centre of attraction, invariably earning him a place in Nigeria's provisional 40-man team for the AFCON 2023.

He has also helped the Tech Boys to five (5) clean sheets with some eye-catching saves this season in the football league.

With Nwabali and the Super Eagles still battling for honours at AFCON 2023, it would be interesting to see what becomes of his future at Chippa United.
