The Bafana Bafana of South Africa defeated the Amavubi of Rwanda 3-0 to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Bafana Bafana of South Africa recorded a 3-0 win against the Amavubi of Rwanda in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup Group C clash.

Under the guidance of Belgian coach Hugo Broos, South Africa clinched a spot in the expanded 48-team tournament as CAF Group C winners.

Before the game, the Amavubi of Rwanda promised to bounce back from a 0-1 loss to Benin Republic.

In the game at Mbombela Stadium, South Africa struck first as Siyabonga Mbatha opened the scoring in the fifth minute, capitalizing on a well-orchestrated move to set the tone for South Africa’s dominance.

The lead was doubled in the 25th minute when Oswin Appollis rifled the ball into the net, assisted by Orlando Pirates star Evidence Makgopa.

Rwanda struggled to get into the game as Bafana Bafana provided relentless pressure going to the halftime break up 2-0.

In the second half, South Africa approached the game trying to protect their advantage with Nigeria already with a comfortable lead against Benin Republic in the other group game.

The icing on the cake came in the 71st minute when Tshegofatso Mabasa sealed the victory with a clinical finish.

The Bafana Bafana picked up one of the allocated nine direct spots to African nations from Group C and beat out the Super Eagles for the ticket.

South Africa then held for the win and make a return to the global stage after a 16-year absence, their last appearance being as hosts in 2010.
