Arsenal made light work of Slavia Prague to keep their perfect record in the Champions League
Despite missing Viktor Gyokeres due to injury, a largely second-string Arsenal side comfortably swept aside Slavia Prague in a dominant 3-0 win.
A brace from make-shift striker Mikel Merino and a first-half Bukayo Saka penalty were enough to see the Gunners through away from home to make it 12 points from a possible 12 in the Champions League this season.
Slavia Prague vs Arsenal: How it happened
Arsenal cruised to a confident victory, showing composure right from the start as Gabriel Magalhaes nearly opened the scoring with a powerful early volley.
Slavia Prague did offer brief attacking moments, but the Gunners created the clearer chances, with Bukayo Saka twice testing Jakub Markovic.
Their pressure paid off on the half-hour mark when Gabriel’s header struck Lukas Provod’s hand in the box, leading to a VAR-reviewed penalty that Saka calmly slotted into the bottom corner.
Arsenal struck again just 36 seconds into the second half, as Leandro Trossard delivered a pinpoint cross for Mikel Merino to smash home from close range.
Despite injuries limiting Mikel Arteta’s rotation options, the team kept pushing, and Merino added his second when he reacted quickest to Declan Rice’s delivery to head past Markovic for 3–0.
With the result secure, Arsenal focused on seeing out the match defensively, surviving a late scare when a penalty awarded to Slavia was overturned after VAR review.
The night ended on another high note as 15-year-old Max Dowman became the youngest Champions League player ever, capping a near-perfect evening that sent Arsenal to the top of the league phase table and left winless Slavia on the brink of elimination.
