Former Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi has sent a strong warning to Blues manager Enzo Maresca ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Chelsea have been busy in the transfer market this summer, splashing over £200m on seven new signings, including Brighton’s Joao Pedro.
The fresh faces have already made an impact, propelling Enzo Maresca’s team to the Club World Cup final against PSG on Sunday. More deals are expected before the 2025/26 season kicks off in August, but recent reports indicate Chelsea won’t be signing a new goalkeeper.

A move for AC Milan’s Mike Maignan fell through, meaning Robert Sanchez, who led the Premier League in errors leading to goals last season, is likely to remain the first-choice goalkeeper despite an inconsistent spell at Stamford Bridge.
Club legend John Mikel Obi expressed doubts about Sanchez on talkSPORT, saying, “A lot of the Chelsea fans can agree that we need another top goalkeeper because Sanchez is not doing it. The goalkeeper situation needs to be sorted out.
"We can’t go into the new season with Sanchez, I’m sorry. I’m sure that 99 per cent of the Chelsea fans will agree with me that Sanchez is not the goalkeeper who will win us trophies..
"Going into a season where we have the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and all of this, we need a top, top goalkeeper.”
The Blues are in action on Sunday evening in the FIFA Club World Cup against French giants PSG, a chance for Maresca to prove Mikel wrong yet again.
