Akwa Ibom State on Wednesday, commissioned the use of a refurbished 20000-seater stadium, raising the number of functional football facilities in the state to three.
The Southern Nigeria state at the moment, boasts of arguably the best stadium in the country, so much that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) recently approved it - the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo - as the only facility fit enough to host the Super Eagles in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Beyond the 30000-seater edifice, Akwa Ibom State also boasts of a functional and aesthetically pleasing Eket Stadium, 51.4km away from Uyo.
Following the commissioning of the Uyo Township Stadium on Wednesday, Akwa Ibom's profile rises in terms of states with the most functional football edifices in Nigeria.
