Lionel Messi has released a statement apologising for leaving the club without authorised permission.

The Argentine was recently suspended for two weeks and also fined after missing a training session without permission owing to a commercial commitment in Saudi Arabia.

Messi’s punishment will be that he won’t enter the club facilities and will miss two Ligue 1 games against Troyes and Ajaccio

The World Cup winner has now apologised for leaving the club without authorisation in a statement released today.

The 35-year-old was recently suspended from entering the club's training facility after leaving the club on an unauthorised trip to Saudi Arabia.

The seven times Ballon d’Or winner has officially released a statement asking for an apology from his teammates and his club for breaking the rules.

Messi’s official statement says, “I thought we were going to have a day off after the game as always. I had this trip organised and I couldn't cancel it. I had already cancelled it before.

“I apologise to my teammates and I'm waiting for what the club wants to do with me”.

Messi expected to leave PSG

Several clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia have been linked to Lionel Messi, who is expected to leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

Recently, the Argentine has been linked with his old team Barcelona, but their financial difficulties are preventing the move.

According to recent reports, Saudi Arabian clubs are looking to offer Messi a mega deal worth £320 million a year which will make him the highest-paid player in the world.

Chelsea are also said to be interested in signing the 35-year-old if he leaves PSG at the end of his contract as Todd Boehly sees the Argentine as a statement signing for his team.
