A former Liverpool defender does not believe Jadon Sancho is the right fit for Nottingham Forest.
Liverpool legend Steve Nicol does not understand why Nottingham Forest are interested in Jadon Sancho.
Forest's owner, Evangelos Marinakis, is reportedly prepared to finance a deal to bring the 25-year-old to the City Ground, despite their previous failed loan attempt last season when Sancho joined Chelsea.
Sancho out of favour at Manchester United, Forest linked
Sancho has returned to Old Trafford for pre-season training under Ruben Amorim but remains out of favour following a high-profile fallout last year.
He is currently part of a "bomb squad" of players restricted from regular first-team training.
Several reports suggest that the Tricky Trees view Sancho as an ideal replacement for Anthony Elanga, who recently joined Newcastle United and also experienced a similar situation at Old Trafford.
Forest hope that the Englishman can replicate Elanga's redemption arc and rediscover his top form in the Premier League.
Speaking on ESPN, Nicol was amused by the rumour, believing that the Englishman lacks the work ethic to play under Nuno Espirito Santo.
“He’s not a Nottingham Forest-type player, is he?” the ex-Liverpool defender said.
“Nottingham Forest are all about fighting and running and closing and defending and hitting on the break and being decisive.
“Jadon Sancho, he doesn’t fit that mould.”
Sancho’s career has been inconsistent since his successful spell at Dortmund, where he amassed 50 goals and 64 assists in 137 games.
After his £73 million move to United in 2021, he struggled, scoring just 12 goals in 82 appearances before his banishment from the first team.
What’s next for Nottingham Forest?
Forest are winless in pre-season after playing out consecutive goalless games with Chesterfield and Monaco.
Nuno Espirito Santo's men next play Fulham in an all-Premier League clash on July 26.
