"Rodri is still the best player in the world" - Guardiola hypes Spanish star after his returns from injury
Pep Guardiola previewed Manchester City's upcoming clash with Tottenham this Friday, set for Saturday at 12:30 PM at the Etihad Stadium for the second matchday of the Premier League.
The Spanish manager confirmed the absences of Gvardiol, Savinho, and Kovacic but highlighted the return of Rodri, a key figure in midfield.
What Guardiola said about Rodri
When asked about the Spanish international's importance, Guardiola was full of praise: "I just want a consistent Rodri. I have no doubts about his potential, his quality. So far, he remains the best player in the world. I have no doubts."
The Citizens' manager was also asked about the heavy 4-0 defeat against Spurs last season but dismissed any talk of revenge: "It's just another opportunity; revenge makes no sense.
Spurs have always been a tough opponent, but this is a completely new season, and what happened in the past is in the past."
"It's a new season, new vibes, and I hope the game will be like last season's, the first 15 or 20 minutes, where we created a lot and felt comfortable when we later won [they won the return fixture 1-0], because Tottenham has always been a good team with good players," he added, as reported by Sportal.
The match will also mark the debut of new assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders, a point Guardiola was keen to highlight: "I am very pleased to work with him.
"I've been very lucky to have incredible people around me who have taught and inspired me a lot. Pep [Pepijn Lijnders] is no different; we are very happy."
Meanwhile, Guardiola will be able to count on Rodri, Phil Foden, and Ederson for Manchester City's home match against Tottenham tomorrow.
