This is a preview of the Naija Super 8 clash between Remo Stars and Katsina United featuring unpublished notes from the last time this writer watched Katsina United play.

Naija Super 8 continues today with a mouthwatering clash between Remo Stars and Katsina United. Both teams will kick off the proceedings on Sunday with an early start at the Mobolaji Johnson, MJ, Arena, Onikan.

United are back in the NPFL after promotion from the NNL was secured last week in Asaba at the Super 8 Playoffs. But they face a side in CAF Champions League-bound Remo, who are flying at the moment and look unstoppable.

Remo vs Katsina: Intro

The Sky Blues defeated NPFL champions Enyimba International in their opener and will be looking to consolidate that result against United. Nevertheless, their opponents, the Changi Boys, will not be pushovers, especially considering their style of play.

Remo Stars
A memorable day for Isaac James and Remo Stars against Enyimba.

Having followed their progress so far from the Naija Super 8 playoffs in Eket which was the last time I watched them, here is something that will give Remo Stars and their fans insight on their next opponents.

Here are excerpts from the last time I watched the team coached by a former NPFL winner, Usman Abdullah, against northern rivals, Kano Pillars.

Katsina Build-up

Katsina players look quite comfortable and confident on the ball. In the 17th minute, the players combined to create the first chance that led to a great save from Kano Pillars goalkeeper, Oshua Enaholo.

Katsina United
Katsina United's number 14, Emmanuel Junior is one player to watch out in midfield for the Changi Boys.

The build-up, as was the case throughout the encounter, was lovely, with four players involved in that. There was a beautiful ball-carrying before a lofted pass that was met by Yahaya Nazifi’s well-struck volley.

Katsina United skipper

Katsina United’s skipper, Usman Bara'u, is quite tenacious, the no-nonsense midfielder was everywhere, covering every grass on the pitch, against Kano Pillars.

Katsina United
Katsina United's Usman Bara'u is as tenacious as they come.

He was strong and hard on the tackles, really hard and at some point in the game, even legendary Rabiu Ali felt his wrath.

The tackles

Talking about the tackles, we may not have the official records but they were flying up and down the Eket Stadium in this game. I wanted to say that both teams hate themselves that much, but I tried to hold myself.

Katsina United
Katsina United is hard on the tackle and i expect to see that against Remo Stars.

At some point, not just Rabiu Ali but the referee got tired and had to stamp his authority. Katsina United had three players on yellow cards in the first half.

They were lucky to have just three yellow cards in the opening 45 minutes.

Clumsy KU

The Changi Boys looked vulnerable from set plays and gifted Kano Pillars some good chances, with fouls in good areas. Ali threatened from set pieces - two times from 30 yards out and he hit the target on both occasions.

Early in the second half, he got another chance in a more dangerous area, but guess what? It ended in premium disappointment.

Katsina United
Keep your eyes on the number 13, Samson Olasupo (Souley), he has got a good sense of positioning.

Katsina United held on to become the latest team to book a Super 8 spot with a dominant Kano Pillars win

The match kicks off at 2 pm Nigerian time.
