Real Madrid are looking for striker — Super Eagles eligible forward responds to transfer interests
Super Eagles-eligible striker Tolu Arokodare has joked about joining Real Madrid amid rumours linking him with a move away from Genk this summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old joined Genk in the winter transfer window of 2023, replacing another Nigerian striker, Paul Onuachu, who left for Southampton.
The lanky striker did not particularly let sparks fly in his first season, scoring 12 goals in 40 appearances; however, he has been on a prolific run in his sophomore year, scoring four goals in four matches.
His form has generated interest from overseas, with Trabzonspor being the most keen, but the club only want to sell him for a significant amount, and they believe the Turkish side cannot match their ask.
What Arokodare said
The Festac-born striker was questioned about the reports linking him away from the club and he joked about joining Real Madrid before stating that he was happy at Genk and focused on their ambitions.
“I think I might go to Real Madrid,” he said, per Voetbal Nieuws. “I hear they are still looking for a second striker next to Mbappé. No, just kidding. I have a contract with Genk, and I am focused on this club, not on rumours. Where do I see my future? I am not a clairvoyant. No idea, man.”
As stated earlier, Arokodare has been in inspired form this season. This past weekend, he and another Nigerian forward, Yira Sor, were in synch to help Genk beat Beershot in a seven-goal thriller. Tolu scored a brace, while Sor won a penalty and registered an assist in the 4-3 win.
