Osimhen breaks Ronaldo's Serie A high jump record
Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen scored a brace to help Napoli beat Spezia 3-0 on Sunday but he is making the news for a different exploit from that game.
Osimhen scored his first goal and Napoli's second of the game with an opportunistic header, getting the better of the unsuspecting defence and goalkeeper.
In doing so, the 24-year-old reportedly recorded the highest jump in Serie A surpassing the previous record which was held by none other than Cristiano Ronaldo.
Air Osimhen
According to TuttoNapoli Osimhen jumped 2.58 metres into the air to head the ball into the net for Napoli against Spezia.
A loose ball flung into space inside the danger area with Spezia goalkeeper Bartłomiej Drągowski, for a brief moment, looking like the favourite to pluck it off the air but Osimhen somehow managed to lift himself above the goalkeeper to head the ball into an empty net.
His 2.58 metres jump is the typical height jumped by an average NBA player and more importantly it surpasses Cristiano Ronaldo's previous Serie A record.
Ronaldo set the previous record while playing for Juventus in 2019 away at Sampdoria to score a goal that received widespread attention for its audaciousness and sheer ability.
Osimhen has now surpassed not only Ronaldo but also his own personal best jump which was 2.52 metres which he set against Torino last season.
The Nigerian still has a long way to go if he aims to break the world record which is 2.62 metres, set by Ugandan defender Bevis Mugabi in the Scottish Championship in January 2021.
