NWFL Super Six: Bayelsa Queens 17 games unbeaten ended as Remo Stars target new record

The final day of the Super Six promises high-stakes matches.

Nasarawa Amazons maintained their lead in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six standings after a hard-fought goalless draw against Remo Stars Ladies in the final match of Round four.

The Amazons' defensive resilience frustrated the attacking efforts of the fourth-placed Remo Stars Ladies, earning them a point. This result keeps Nasarawa Amazons at the summit of the table with eight points.

Edo Queens moved into second place with seven points after securing a 2-0 victory over Bayelsa Queens in the day's earlier game. Goodness Osigwe's 45th-minute goal proved to be the difference in a closely contested encounter.

The defeat pushed Bayelsa Queens down to third, with seven points and ended the prosperity girls 17-game unbeaten run in the league, the same as Remo Stars Ladies and Edo Queens.

However, Edo Queens hold a superior head-to-head record in the competition.

Rivers Angels claimed their first win of the Super Six tournament, defeating Naija Ratels 2-0. Goals from Titilayo Aweda in the 25th minute and Mary Moses in the 86th minute secured the victory for Rivers Angels, placing them fifth in the standings with four points. Naija Ratels remain without any points.

The teams will have a day of rest on Friday before returning to action for the decisive final round.

High stakes on the final day

The final day of the Super Six promises high-stakes matches. Leaders Nasarawa Amazons will face second-placed Edo Queens in a top-of-the-table clash that could determine the league champions.

Bayelsa Queens will play against Naija Ratels, and Rivers Angels will take on Remo Stars Ladies.

The winner of the Super Six tournament will earn the sole ticket to represent Nigeria in the West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone B qualifying series for the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League.
