Remo Stars have ended Enyimba's mini-unbeaten run after a big win against the NPFL champions in Aba.

Remo Stars have moved to second in the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, standings after a fantastic victory against Enyimba in Aba.

Former Enyimba star Samad Kadiri was the hero as the Sky Blues defeated the champions 1-0 in a rescheduled matchday five clash on Wednesday.

Both sides went into the clash in search of a win, Enyimba needed all three points to continue their run while Remo were looking to end a run of two matches without a win in the NPFL.

The Sky Blues were the winners in the end, with former Enyimba player, Kadiri, and Sodiq Ismail playing decisive roles.

Enyimba started well, but Remo opened the scoring just after the hour-mark when the excellent Ismail delivered another peach cross which was expertly headed in by Kadiri to put the visitors in front.

The People’s Elephant responded positively to going behind by piling the pressure on the Ikenne-based side.

However, despite coming close on several occasions, hitting the post on more than two occasions, the champions found the equaliser elusive.

This was also the case in the second half, with both sides looking to add to the scoreline.

However, Remo Stars defended well and held tightly to the slim lead to seal an important win and three points.

What the result means

Following the win in Aba, Remo Stars have now moved to within a point of leaders, Lobi Stars.

Remo sit second on the table with 19 points, while Enyimba remain outside the top four, with 16 points from 10 matches.
