NPFL champions Enyimba begin life without Finidi George in local derby vs Babes
Enyimba will hope to complete their title defence without former boss Finidi George when the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, resumes on Sunday after a month-long break.
After three years in charge at the Aba Millionaires and leading them to the NPFL crown, Finidi has departed the club, taking up a new role as head coach of the Super Eagles.
Enyimba’s life without Finidi George
His exit was confirmed earlier this month, with Enyimba subsequently unveiling his former assistant, Olanrewaju Yemi Daniel, as the new man in the hot seat.
And Daniel will get an immediate taste of the pressure that comes with managing the defending champions, as Enyimba kick off the run-in with a local derby against Abia Warriors in Umuahia.
It will be the first match for the People's Elephant without Finidi, who enjoyed a successful spell at the club, including guiding them to the NPFL title last season.
Enyimba currently sit third in the table, four points behind leaders Rangers International, with just six matches remaining.
They will be determined to get off to a winning start under their new manager as they look to retain their crown.
The task won't be easy, however, with the Warriors, known as Ochendo Babes, sure to be fired up for the derby clash as they look to spring an upset against the champions.
All eyes will be on Enyimba and their new boss as they begin life after Finidi in this crucial NPFL encounter.
