Former Germany international Toni Kroos weighed in on the dispute between Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr's ownership.
Former Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has slammed the Saudi Pro League amid Cristiano Ronaldo’s protest against the PIF over the perceived lack of investment in Al Nassr.
The 41-year-old has missed two matches already despite being hale and hearty, with Portuguese sources claiming his absence was sparked by league leader Al Hilal’s acquisition of Karim Benzema from Al Itihad, while the Faris Najd have not been as ambitious in the transfer window.
The Saudi Pro League released a strong statement in reaction to Ronaldo’s protest, reminding the former Manchester United forward that he was not bigger than the league.
What Kroos said
Kroos, who was teammates with Ronaldo from 2014 till 2018, winning three Champions League titles together, believes the SPFL have disrespected Al Nassr’s captain, citing his incredible influence in boosting the appeal of the league.
“The Saudi league is a strange phenomenon. No one had heard of it before the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo, and now they disrespect the man who put them on the world map,’ Kroos said, per Goal
“If Cristiano leaves tomorrow, this league will lose all its charm. Without Ronaldo, no one would see the Saudi league.”
Strike over
However, as Pulse Sports reported, the dispute between Ronaldo and the division has been resolved after the league met some of his demands. He is expected to return to action next weekend against Al-Fateh, but will miss midweek’s Asian Champions Cup against Turkmenistani side Arkadag.
