Nigerian trio battle to emulate Chukwueze as LALIGA unveils MVP award nominees

Nigerian stars Chrisantus Uche, Chidera Ejuke, and Umar Sadiq lead a stellar list of 20 African nominees for the 2024/25 SPORTY LALIGA MVP award, celebrating the continent’s top talents in Spanish football.

Nigerian football is stealing the spotlight in Spain as three Super Eagles stars, Chrisantus Uche, Chidera Ejuke, and Umar Sadiq, have earned nominations for the prestigious 2024/25 SPORTY LALIGA MVP award. 

The trio, each shining in LALIGA this season, headlines a list of 20 African talents vying for the coveted title, which celebrates the continent’s finest in Spanish football.

Uche, a revelation in his debut season with Getafe CF, has turned heads with his dynamic play. Ejuke, also in his first campaign with Sevilla FC, is dazzling fans with his flair and pace. 

Meanwhile, Valencia CF’s Umar Sadiq continues to prove his mettle as a formidable force up front on loan from Real Sociedad.

Their nominations mark a proud moment for Nigeria, following in the footsteps of compatriot Samuel Chukwueze, who clinched the award in 2023.

Now in its fourth year, the LALIGA MVP award, backed by new sponsor SPORTY GROUP, showcases Africa’s growing influence in one of the world’s top leagues.

From Ghana’s Inaki Williams, the reigning champion and Athletic Club talisman, to Atlético Madrid’s Mozambican rock Reinildo Mandava, the nominees represent 13 nations and a wealth of talent lighting up LALIGA pitches.

Fans across Sub-Saharan Africa hold the power to shape the outcome, with voting open from April 29 to May 14 on the MILIGA FAN ZONE.

Their voices, combined with a panel of 25 top African sports journalists, will crown the winner on Africa Day, May 25, coinciding with the LALIGA season’s thrilling finale.

The nominee list reads like a who’s who of African football elite. Cameroon’s Flavien Enzo Boyomo anchors CA Osasuna’s defense, while Villarreal CF’s trio, Senegal’s Pape Gueye, Ivory Coast’s Nicolas Pepe, and Cape Verde’s Logan Costa, fuels the Yellow Submarine’s European dreams.

Other standouts include Mali’s Moussa Diarra at Deportivo Alavés and Togo’s Djené Dakonam at Getafe CF.
