Newcastle United identify Alexander Isak's replacement, with €70 million swoop for Benjamin Sesko!
Despite being under contract with RB Leipzig until 2029, Sesko has a gentleman's agreement with the German club following his contract extension last summer.
This fee is reportedly within Newcastle's budget, especially as the club's hierarchy believes Sesko is a sound investment.
The towering Slovenian striker (1.95m/6'5") scored 21 goals in 45 appearances across all competitions during the 2024-2025 season.
Newcastle wants Sesko
Should a tempting offer arrive, he will be allowed to leave. According to Bild, via Sportal, the agreed-upon fee is between €60 and €70 million.
Bayern Munich and Arsenal previously showed interest in Sesko. Bayern were reportedly turned down as Sesko would have been behind Harry Kane in the pecking order, while Arsenal later shifted their focus to Viktor Gyokeres.
Newcastle's pursuit of Sesko comes as Isak's departure looks increasingly likely. Howe omitted the Swedish international from the Magpies' current tour of Asia.
Officially, Isak is sidelined with a thigh injury sustained earlier this week. Unofficially, the striker has reportedly informed the club of his desire to move to Liverpool. According to The Sun, the English champions are awaiting Newcastle's signal to begin negotiations.
The Sun also reported that Liverpool owner John Henry is prepared to offer up to £150 million (€172 million) for Isak. Manager Arne Slot is reportedly ready to give him a starting role.
Despite recently acquiring Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt for €91 million, the Dutch manager plans to deploy a 4-4-2 formation with Isak and Ekitike as his strike partnership.
