The Magpies have beaten top clubs to the signing of Sanusi from Birmingham

Newcastle have signed talented teenager Trevan Sanusi from Birmingham as they look to build the future of the club with young talent from England.

Newcastle beat off four other clubs for Sanusi

Sanusi was a prized asset for Birmingham, but the EFL Championship side were always going to face a tough battle to keep the England youth international after top clubs in the Premier League came for the teenager’s signature.

In the end, Newcastle beat off competition from Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Liverpool to bag Sanusi on a scholarship deal, which he became eligible for after his 16th birthday in April this year.

The youngster will now join Newcastle’s development squad after starring for Birmingham’s equivalent last season.

Newcastle make statement signing

Sanusi, who qualifies to play for Nigeria, has represented England in youth football but could still switch his international allegiance in the future, although this is unlikely given his current leanings.

The 16-year-old forward is regarded as a special talent, given the amount of attention he has received this window, and could be an important part of the Tyneside club’s future.

Sanusi’s signing will be seen as a statement by Newcastle, who are now looking to build a more sustainable future rather than depending on expensive imports despite their Saudi PIF funds.
