The Netherlands have now conceded 11 goals in their last four matches across all competitions after another defeat to Italy in the Nations League.

The Netherlands have suffered another defeat under the managerial guidance of Ronald Koeman following a five-goal thriller against Italy in the UEFA Nations League.

Koeman and the Orange made it back-to-back defeats in the Nations League after a 3-2 loss to the Azzurri in the third-place match on Sunday.

The defeat makes it the third in three matches for the Netherlands since Koeman took over from former boss Louis van Gaal.

Netherlands vs Italy: Match brief

Both nations came into the bronze medal match looking for redemption after their respective defeats in the semifinals.

Italy lost 2-1 to Spain while the Netherlands were thrashed 4-2 by Croatia in the second semis.

However, it was Italy who took the medal in the end following a brilliant display from Roberto Mancini’s men.

The Azzurri started superbly and led 2-0 inside the opening 20 minutes thanks to goals from Federico Dimarco and Frattesi.

Steven Bergwijn pulled one back for the Orange after the break but it lasted just four minutes before Federico Chiesa restored Italy’s two-goal lead when he made it 3-1 with 18 minutes to play.

Georginio Wijnaldum pulled another goal back for the Dutchmen but it came rather too late as Italy held on for the win.

With the win, Mancini’s Italy are now unbeaten in four matches against the Netherlands, who have now conceded 11 goals in their last four outings across all competitions.

Koeman has now lost more matches in charge of the Netherlands in just four matches than Louis van Gaal managed in his previous two stints combined, with two defeats in 49 matches.
