Michael Carrick is refusing to place a ceiling on Manchester United’s potential after his side continued their sensational form with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
Manchester United defeated Tottenham 2-0 at Old Trafford to remain the only team in the Premier League yet to taste defeat in 2026.
United capitalised after Spurs captain Cristian Romero was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Casemiro. The dismissal left under-fire Tottenham boss Thomas Frank facing an uphill battle.
Minutes after the sending-off, a masterfully executed set-piece routine broke the deadlock. Bruno Fernandes played a low corner to Kobbie Mainoo, whose clever flick caught the Spurs defense off guard and found Bryan Mbeumo free in the box, to finish into the bottom corner for his ninth league goal of the campaign.
The second half was a story of total United dominance as Tottenham retreated into a compact low block.
Spurs' resistance finally crumbled in the 81st minute when a pinpoint Diogo Dalot cross aimed for Benjamin Sesko fell instead to Fernandes at the back post. The captain finished instinctively with the outside of his boot to seal the three points.
Michael Carrick prepares Man Utd fans for more good times
Speaking to the media after the game, Carrick expressed his delight at the squad's hunger:
"We will see where we end up in the standings. We want to win as many matches as possible; I am not setting any limits.
"Things are going well, the boys are in a good place, and they are hungry for more."
Reflecting on the atmosphere at Old Trafford, the former Spurs midfielder added: "It can be magical this place at times. Hopefully, there is more to come."
The victory keeps United firmly in fourth place, moving them to within just three points of second-placed Manchester City.
